Refurbishing electrical cabinets with art

From grey cabinet to visual story

Electrical cabinets are everywhere in the streetscape, but rarely contribute to the appearance of a city. Modern Murals sees these surfaces as promising carriers of meaning and identity. With high-quality full colour prints, applied with durable transfer film and finished with an anti-graffiti coating, these functional objects are transformed into inspiring works of art. By using local archive images, graphic patterns or custom art, places are created that residents immediately recognise.

Also applicable to other functional objects

This technique is not only suitable for electrical cabinets, but also for transformer houses, switch cabinets or other elements that are often experienced as “visual noise”. With the right images, these places become an enrichment of public space.

About Dominic Brown

Dominic Brown, creative entrepreneur behind Modern Murals, developed an approach in which heritage and design meet in the smallest format of the city. Each electrical cabinet becomes part of a larger story – about the neighbourhood, its history or its future. Municipalities value this method for the visual enhancement, the positive reactions from residents and the reduction of graffiti nuisance. Moreover, the solutions are quick to realise, easy to maintain and affordable. Art as a tool for liveability, visibility and pride.
