Heritage in 3D

Modern Murals

Modern Murals also uses 3D printing techniques to bring heritage to life in a contemporary and tangible way. Historical images, objects or city icons are translated into sculptural forms in public space – for example as free-standing objects, benches or facade decorations that invite interaction and wonder. A special development is the plan to print iconic masterpieces from The Hague museums, such as Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring and Mondriaan’s Victory Boogie Woogie, in 3D and cover them with lifelike transfer film. An information text will be printed on the back, in full colour on solar panels, which generate energy to illuminate the artwork from within in the evening. A world first in which art, technology and sustainability come together.
